The popular Lanarkshire nursery is taken over by the Busy Bees group
A popular Lanarkshire nursery has been taken over by new owners after being independent for almost 30 years
Busy Bees acquired Oakwood, which looks after 172 children at its facility on Lochbrae Drive in Burnside.
The move means Oakwood will become the fourth Busy Bees location in or around Glasgow, and also marks the retirement of founder and nursery manager Valerie Fotheringham, who started the nursery in the 1990s.

Valerie told Lanarkshire Live: “I have enjoyed looking after hundreds of children over the years, working alongside our dedicated team of educators since 1995.
“Busy Bees shares our mission to ensure that the happiness, well-being and progress of every child is a priority, so I have no doubt that Oakwood is in good hands as I begin my retirement.
“I will be sad to say goodbye to all the families, children and our team, but I will take so many wonderful memories with me over the years.
“Children, families and staff mean a lot to me and I know Busy Bees will take care of them in this new chapter ahead. I wish them the best for the future.”
Busy Bees Scotland Managing Director Yvonne Smillie added: “We are delighted to welcome the children, families and the Oakwood team to our Busy Bees family.
“There is a huge synergy between Valerie’s story and ours, which is why working together feels so natural.
“Every day, the team provides the care and attention needed to give young children the best start in life, which fits perfectly with our mission here at Busy Bees.
“We look forward to building on the success of the teams, while continuing to provide exceptional care to young children in the region. “
Oakwood is one of South Lanarkshire’s oldest nurseries and has been a part of the community for decades. It offers childcare services from birth to five years old, as well as after-school care for children aged five to 12.
The campus has two main buildings: Oak Cottage and the Preschool. Oak Cottage is a facility specially designed for children 0-3 years old, designed to support children at every age and at every stage of their development.
Meanwhile, the preschool center is housed in a large Victorian villa and caters for children aged three to five, with the aim of challenging children and preparing them for school.
Busy Bees now cares for more than 40,000 children in 379 nurseries in the UK and Ireland, and 55,000 children worldwide in eight countries.
