Gurugram to have biggest peepal and banyan tree nursery: The Tribune India
Gurugram, June 18
With the Hariyali Kranti Abhiyan being run under the umbrella of “Give Me the Trust of the Trees” in Manesar, Haryana laid the foundation for the world’s largest peepal and banyan tree nursery on the Karma Lake lands in Manesar. The project benefits from the collaborative efforts of the 31st Battalion of the CRPF.
“This location was chosen because there is good security and availability of water. The Haryana state tree is peepal and the national tree is the banyan and, ironically, both are quickly disappearing due to commercialization. We hope that this initiative will contribute to their protection. We will tie all schools, colleges, military and sports people into this endeavor, ”the Trust spokesperson said.
The nursery will be built on an area of nine acres, which is part of a three-year program. In the first phase two acres have been marked, then next year another two acres will be used and in the third year the nursery will be developed on five acres. There are plans to establish a 20 lakh nursery, which will be the largest peepal and banyan tree nursery in the world. CRPF staff will come monthly to help maintain this crèche.
